Leafcutter Bees emerge when Temperatures reach a solid 70 degrees. They are a very small NATIVE Solitary bee that bee for bee, pollinate at least three times better than honeybees. They don't travel as far, they will stay right in your yard and are wonderful at pollinating your summer garden. They don't produce honey and love living near other bees so there is no reason for them to be aggressive. They cut small pieces of leaves to pack between their cells. They can have up to 4 lifecycles of bees that are laid, hatch, pollinate and lay eggs each year. The blue Orchard Mason Bees only do one cycle and then go dormant, whereas leafcutter bees will pollinate into the fall. For Summer Garden Leafcutter bees, all you need is our HABITAT BOARDS which are seasoned, meaning they have had bees in them before. That is THE best attractant. They also contain the bees in them already. I have opened them up, cleaned out any bad bugs, made sure there are enough to give you a good start and sealed them up with drywall spackle to protect the back from bad bugs getting in there. To get started with Leafcutter bees, you need a block and a house. you are welcome to build your own house. They are fine to go in a #10 can. they just need to be out of the weather where rain or water wont get sprayed on drained into their holes. Our houses are specifically made to easily house your habitat for leafcutter bees. It works perfectly to put your 104 hole habitat boards in and mount on a fence, post, garage, tree or stuff it in a bush. We design of these so that 1. They will more easily ship. 2. They are basic painted white for durability or so you can easily paint them or decorate them to your heart's content to match your own beautiful garden or design. 3. Great for kids. It's an activity that they can accomplish (screws included) that they can also take ownership in. These bees are not aggressive. It's the perfect pet because there is not really any maintenance. If you decide to paint/stain the box make sure to leave it out in the sun, wind or weather, whatever you can do to let it air out as much as possible before putting the bees in. Even a couple days outside before they hatch will help. These are made from pine and the bees prefer old wood. Easy to assemble instructions are included as well as pre drilled holes and screws. These will help keep predatory bugs from taking over your Habitat by creating a good solid seal. The complete package includes the house, the seasoned boards with Leafcutter bees in them. Simply take out of the box and hang on your fence or post! When you receive your package of leafcutter bees, you can immediately put it outside, don't leave in your house because if you keep a really warm home, bees might think it's time to come out. This truly is one of my favorite parts of my garden. these tiny tiny native bees are so fun and I have personally seen the benefits of their pollination.
